Description

Piccolo Sogno website states:Piccolo Sogno opened its doors to Chicago in July 2008. Named "little dream," as it translates in Italian, it is the famed chef Tony Priolo and Italian wine expert Ciro Longobardo's dream Italian restaurant, also their first. Piccolo Sogno features a menu of fresh, seasonal rustic Italian cuisine with an impressive all-Italian wine program. "The restaurant fits our personal goal to get to the heart of Italian wine and food," says Priolo, owner and Executive Chef. "You go to Italy for simple food, prepared by hand with local ingredients and served with local wines. That's why people love eating in Italy, and we want to bring that experience to Chicago."
Priolo's menu fits those intentions, offering regional Italian dishes including hand-tossed pizzas prepared in the restaurant's wood-burning oven, house-made pastas, Roman-style pork and Mediterranean sea bass, as well as homemade gelato and sorbet.
The wine list is as approachable, as Ciro Longobardo includes detailed descriptions for each of the 400+ by-the-glass and bottle selections, organized by region. "Italians often drink simple local wines with their meal, but Italian wines can be confusing for many people," says Longobardo. "We want to make it easy for people to look at the list and find a wine that pairs well with their food and fits the mood perfectly."

My favorite Italian spot in the city. Gorgeous dining room; beautiful patio...great for a first date or a business dinner. Amazing food...superb wine list...wonderful service. Some of my favorite dishes: Straw and Hay - pasta with veal bolognese Fruti di Mare - bowl of shellfish and seafood with a wonderful spicy, red sauce Halibut and Farro

Overview
Piccolo Sogno really is a little dream. This authentic gem offers ridiculously good food, wonderful ambiance, and genuine service. The wine list is huge, and solely Italian - we chose a recommended Barolo. For the food: Holy Beet Salad, Batman! I can't remember having one better. Grilled calamari was also a hit. Entrees included Stracci di Farro (truffle oil makes everything better) and a pork tenderloin special (pancetta wrapped does too). The space is warm and inviting, like being at your (very wealthy) Italian aunt's villa. The patio is a true urban oasis in the warmer months. If you can't go to Italy, go to Piccolo Sogno and get caught up in the dream.

Piccolo Sogno's patio is a summer staple. The wine and food only enhance the scene on a summer night outside. The variety of pasta dishes are non-traditional and delicious. It's a fun place to go with a group or on a romantic date. The service is great and you will leave feeling full on amazing food!
