mk website states:we believe: at our core, we're just a mom and pop establishment. that food is a metaphor for the good things in life. there's no substitute for live charcoal. that ingredients are more important than recipes. in honoring thy farmer. in sauces and history. forced formality is for fakers. our wine list rocks. if you're not enjoying yourself, neither are we. that a room full of people dressed for dinner is a thing of beauty. that visual art makes great foreplay. in understated elegance and sensual minimalism. that excellence and consistency are our middle names.

The first time I ate at MK I was impressed. The second time I came I was in love. The service is just as amazing as the food. Everything I tried on the a la cart menus have been surprising and unique. The seasonal menu is full of entrees for whatever mood you are in. Delicious arctic char and tuna, pickled beets and salad with Belgian endive. Everything is so delicious and perfectly prepared and served. Each course is a masterpiece! The tasting menus have been filling and a wonderful treat. If you make a reservation for a special occasion, as I did for my boyfriend's birthday, they will try to make the meal special and personal. They spelled "Happy Birthday" in chocolate raspberry sauce and served a second dessert course that included cookies and macaroons. It was really special. They also served us glasses of champagne on the house. MK is definitely my favorite restaurant in the city!

profile image My Favorite Chicago Dining Experience Yet

I knew immediately upon entering the front door that we were in for an amazing experience and MK did not disappoint. First off, the room itself is incredible. We sat in the bar area - couldn't have been more perfect. MK got us started with a few adult beverages - my favorite being the "MK 10 Year Anniversary". I followed that up with a bowl of their Carrot Soup which was beyond outstanding.. up to and including the presentation. My only problem with this restaurant was that I couldn't decide which entree to order... they all sounded so good. So, I decided to leave it up to our server who seemed eager to take me up on the challenge. And again, I was blown away. I enjoyed the veal chop - all of it - down to the last bite... mixing in the occassional brussel sprout (as decadent as you can possibly make a green vegetable!). By this point, I admit it... I was FULL. But, how could I not partake in dessert? I can't remember the exact name of the dessert I chose, but I can tell you it had the word CHOCOLATE front and center and that's all I needed to see. Amazing. I even let my wife try a bite - which she'll be forever indebted to me for. Perhaps, my favorite part of the experience was the service. Our server and wait staff was perfect. Attentive. Fun. Knowledgable. All in all, this is my favorite meal in the past 1.5 years.

profile image Another amazing dinner

MK has been a favorite if mine for years but for some reason I think last night was the best dinner ever! Had the bees's knees with gin and the TNT and both were excellent. Two people had the 10 year anniversary drink and raved about it. We started with the grilled octopus which was cooked perfectly. I had the tuna which was amazing as always. At the table we also had the salmon with a really great sweet taste to it, the veal was very flavorful, and the lobster and whitefish was excellent. As a side dish we had the always popular pomme frites and the brussel sprouts. I love brussel sprouts but these were the best I have ever had. They had butter and truffle oil on them - enough said! Finished with my favorite - the cake and shake. A thank you to Matt, Robby, and Trevor for the amazing service!!!!

This place is a go-to for out of town guests that come to visit me. It never fails to disappoint, everything from their fun selection of martinis to delicious fish/meat options. It is elegant and fun with too many wonderful dishes to choose from.

God bless Michael Kornick for making Erick Williams the Executive Chef. He is the city's quiet genius, consistently putting out beautiful, imaginative, delicious food in a supremely comfortable, upscale environment. While you can't go wrong with any menu choice, we suggest ordering a round of truffle fries (or two) for the table as soon as you sit down. Other favorites: anything with lobster (the man has a way with this crustacean), the steak, and do not leave until you've had the Cake and Shake. The wine list is thoughtful and incredibly approachable; ask for a decanter. MK sets the standard for places that we love.
